UPI QR Code Generator

A UPI QR code holds your UPI ID and the name a payer sees, so any UPI app opens a payment to you — with a fixed amount, or with the amount left for the payer to type.

Your app may call it a VPA. It looks like an email address and ends in a bank handle such as @okaxis or @ybl.

Fix an amount only for a single item at a single price. A blank amount works for every sale.

Shown to the payer and saved in both statements. Most apps let the payer edit it.

Fill in: UPI ID, Name the payer sees

A UPI QR code carries two things a payer’s app needs: your UPI ID and the name that should appear on their confirmation screen. It can also carry a fixed amount and a note. Nothing about it is tied to a provider account — it is the same open format that every UPI app reads, written into a code you print yourself.

How to make a UPI QR Code

  1. Copy your UPI ID out of your payment app — it sits under your profile and looks like chaicorner@okaxis.
  2. Type the name you want on the payer's confirmation screen, spelled the way your customers know the shop.
  3. Leave the amount blank unless you sell one thing at one price; a blank amount lets the payer type any sum.
  4. Test it from a second phone: scan, and check the name and UPI ID on the confirmation screen before anyone pays.
  5. Download the SVG, print it at least 4 cm across, and stick it where the customer stands to pay.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a merchant account to use this?

No. The code works with any UPI ID, personal or business, because it only carries the ID and the name you type. Your bank still applies its normal per-transaction and daily UPI limits, and a personal account taking shop payments has its own tax paperwork — that part is between you and your accountant.

Why does my UPI app say the code is unverified?

Because it is not a signed merchant code. Payment providers issue codes carrying a signature parameter that apps check, and a code you make yourself has none. The payment still goes through; the payer sees your name and ID on the confirmation screen and approves it there.

Should I fix the amount or leave it blank?

Leave it blank unless you sell a single item at a single price. A blank amount produces one code that works for every sale, and the payer types the figure. A fixed amount is right for something like a ₹40 chai counter, where retyping is the slow part.

Can a plain camera app scan it?

Usually not. The code holds a upi:// address rather than a web link, and most camera apps only act on web links. Scan it from inside a UPI app — GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, or your bank's own app all read it.

Can I take payment in a currency other than rupees?

No. UPI settles in rupees and this tool writes the currency into the code as INR. A foreign card payment needs a payment provider, not a UPI code.
